Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks — Full Concert | Station Street Festival
Shirley Davis & The Silverbacks live at Station Street Festival — Europe's finest soul and funk outfit, performing their full set in Bulgaria.
Considered the new diva of European soul, London-born singer Shirley Davis teamed up with The Silverbacks, the flagship band of Spanish label Tucxone Records, to create one of the most exciting outfits of the contemporary scene. WillWork4Funk Born in London to Jamaican parents, Davis moved to Australia in her teens, where she became a singer for Wilson Pickett, befriended soul legend Marva Whitney, and collaborated with Japanese funk heavyweights Osaka Monaurail. Back in Europe and now based in Madrid, she found her artistic home with The Silverbacks — a tight seven-piece band led by guitarist and musical director Eduardo Martínez.
Davis wrote several songs for Sharon Jones — the Daptone Records frontwoman and matriarch of the soul revival — her mentor and "singing godmother". Just before her death in 2016, Jones offered Davis words of encouragement WillWork4Funk that would inspire the title of their third album, Keep On Keepin' On (2022, Lovemonk Records). Their debut Black Rose (2016) and sophomore Wishes & Wants (2018) earned international acclaim, cementing their reputation as one of Europe's leading soul acts.
A colourful blend of exotic soul and funk — light and heavy — fresh, deep and lovingly made, with excellent performances and production throughout.
Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. Station Street Festival, implemented under procedure BG-RRP-11.016 "Presentation of contemporary European productions from the CCI sector to Bulgarian audiences".
