Chavdar Municipality

A place where tradition meets contemporary development and culture

Chavdar Municipality is one of the smallest municipalities in Bulgaria by population, yet it stands out with a clear vision, active local policies and consistent development. Located in the picturesque Zlatitsa–Pirdop Valley in Sofia Province, the municipality covers the territory of Chavdar village, its only settlement. Here, tradition and a calm rural lifestyle meet modern infrastructure and forward-looking public initiatives.

Chavdar is strategically positioned between the foothills of the Balkan Mountains and Sredna Gora, approximately 70 km from Sofia and 110 km from Plovdiv, making it easily accessible for visitors and residents alike. The village is widely recognized for its clean streets, well-designed public spaces and welcoming atmosphere, often described as one of the most well-maintained and progressive rural areas in Bulgaria.

Over the past years, Chavdar Municipality has become a national example of effective governance and successful management of European and national funding. Investments in infrastructure, culture and public spaces place the municipality among the leaders in per-capita development spending, contributing to a high quality of life for its residents.

The region also boasts a rich historical heritage. Archaeological discoveries reveal organized human life dating back more than 7,000 years. The Chavdar Neolithic Settlement Archaeological Park offers a vivid reconstruction of early agricultural communities and stands as a key cultural landmark in the area.

Today, Chavdar combines history, culture and nature into a distinctive identity – a place where contemporary life is rooted in a strong sense of community, cultural awareness and sustainable development.
