On November 15, 2024, at 9:00 PM, Bee Bop Cafe in Plovdiv will host a special concert that promises to blend jazz and ethno-fusion with the musical richness of Greece, Armenia, and the Middle East. The main artist of this unique event is the virtuoso musician Haig Yazdjian, born in Syria to Armenian parents and raised in Greece, whose music carries the cultural wealth of these traditions. Joining him on stage will be Bulgarian jazz musicians Miroslav Turiyski and Nacho Gospodinov, with special guest Greek singer Sofia Glavopoulou, whose expressive voice will add depth and passion to the evening’s performances.
Haig Yazdjian is well-known to the Bulgarian audience for his masterful skill and unique stage presence. Just a few months ago, he performed at the Station Street Festival in Plovdiv, where he introduced his trio and captivated the audience with his evocative performances. With his oud—a traditional instrument from the Middle East—Haig brings a rich and characteristic sound to his music, creating especially poignant melodies. His style blends Armenian and Middle Eastern musical traditions with modern jazz improvisations, with each note telling a story and adding a sense of depth and cultural richness.
Joining Yazdjian is Sofia Glavopoulou, a singer from Serres, Greece, whose voice radiates the energy of Greek folklore, infused with her own unique interpretation. Sofia graduated in choral conducting from the Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, highlighting her strong connection to the Bulgarian music scene. Her voice will lend the concert warmth and a profound sense of Greek musical heritage.
The musical landscape of the evening will be completed by pianist Miroslav Turiyski and drummer Nacho Gospodinov, prominent figures on the Bulgarian jazz scene. Turiyski impresses with his multi-layered compositions that blend jazz, funk, and ethno elements, while Gospodinov brings rhythmic freedom and improvisational flair, essential qualities in jazz.
This concert offers a musical journey through the sounds of Armenia, Greece, and the Middle East, intertwined with jazz improvisations, promising to transport the audience into a world of cultural traditions and modern musical ideas. This event is not to be missed by jazz and ethno-fusion enthusiasts who seek an experience that brings together diverse styles and cultures in an unforgettable performance.
